One of the most popular features of the first three Alnwick Food Festivals, FREE cookery demonstrations in the Northumberland Hall, will again feature at this year's event. A demonstration kitchen, with a camera and large screen, will be built upstairs in the Northumberland Hall, next to the Market Place.
Local "celebrity" chefs will fill a packed programme of cookery demonstrations, using, where possible, produce from the stallholders in the Market Place. The timetable will be posted here when finalised.
Details of the chefs and their recipes can be found by clicking here.
The Northumberland Hall
The Market Place was home to the Shambles, a single-storey arcade built in 1764 which was perfect for traders to sell their wares.
But in 1826, the Shambles were pulled down to make way for the Northumberland Hall. The new building retained some of the architectural character of the original Shambles, while housing a large assembly hall on the first floor.
Traders were still able to occupy the arched spaces below and a fish market was held at one end.
Today, the Shambles is home to the Tourist Information Centre, public toilets and small shops.
