Alnwick Food Festival is run in conjunction with Northumbria Larder. This umbrella group for fine food and drink producers in the North East of England boasts more than 60 members. Its aim is to encourage, support and develop the aspirations of its members to produce the finest food and drink the region can offer. It was established after the foot-and-mouth outbreak in 2001, when the cancellation of most farmers' markets in the region left the producers with limited outlets and threatened their existence.
Northumbria Larder is funded by One NorthEast, Defra and Food From Britain.

A spokesman for Northumberland County Council said: "One of the most important ways in which Northumberland has grown as a holiday destination in recent years is through the promotion of unique features which differentiate us from other areas: Things like our historic attractions, flag, tartan, folk music, bird and wildlife, country fairs and, of course, our many delicious local foods.
"Food festivals are important because not only do they give visitors and local people the opportunity to sample Northumberland delicasies, but also because they act as an important bridge between food producers and tourism businesses such as hotels and restaurants. They can also play a significant role in encouraging healthy eating. In all these respects, the Alnwick Food Festival promises to be one of the best of its kind."
