Budding chef Adam North, of Coquet High School, Amble, was crowned king of the kitchen at Alnwick Playhouse when he scooped Alnwick Rotary's Young Chef of the Year competition and a £300 voucher for House and Home in Alnwick.
He pipped Duchess's High School champ Gareth Brown to the post with his delicious dish of chicken fillet and white wine sauce served with mixed pepper and mushroom risotto and a selection of fresh vegetables, followed by fresh whipped raspberry double cream on a biscuit base with raspberry sauce. Gareth won a trophy and a £200 voucher for House and Home.

A Duchess's High School pupil was crowned Young Chef of the Year 2005 as he fought off fierce competition.
The competition at the Playhouse, organised by Alnwick Rotary Club as part of the 2005 Alnwick Food Festival, saw two budding chefs team up with two local chefs as they cooked their way to success in a kitchen donated and built by Geoff Keenan from the town's Outlook Home Enhancement Centre.
Winner Daniel Wayman, of the Duchess' Community High School, took on his Coquet High competitor Aaron Oliver as they both battled it out in the heat of the kitchen.
Daniel won £300 of vouchers donated by Geoff Proudlock, of House and Home, Alnwick. Aaron won £200 of House and Home vouchers.
One of the judges, Richard Sim, the head chef at the Alnwick Garden Treehouse, praised both young chefs and said the decision was very difficult.
